The Dynamic Duo

Voices of the Pines brings together soprano Lindsey Allen—an accomplished performer, educator, and founder of Break a Leg Studios whose career spans major opera companies and international stages—and pianist Janelle Francis, a highly sought-after accompanist with over twenty years of experience in choral and theatrical music. Together, they create a joyful, artistically driven environment where young singers can grow through expert guidance, collaboration, and community.

Lindsey Allen, Soprano, is the founder of Break a Leg Studios and the driving force behind Voices of the Pines. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and her Masters and Performer's Certificate in Opera Performance at Indiana University – Jacobs School of Music. Lindsey has performed a variety of operatic and musical theatre roles, with Kansas City Lyric, Indiana University, Piedmont Opera, and Opera Tel Aviv.

Her passion for nurturing young singers began with her own experience in the Kalamazoo Children’s Chorus and has continued throughout her career. Lindsey has directed and managed youth programs such as the Piedmont Opera Youth Chorus, increasing enrollment, performance opportunities, and fundraising, and developed and directed Lift Every Voice and Sing: A Celebration of Black Choral Composers, a week-long camp for students in grades 3–12. She has also served as Managing Director and Music Director for numerous productions at Imagine Youth Theater, gaining extensive experience leading young performers on stage. Through Break a Leg Studios, she continues to create meaningful musical experiences that develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship, and confidence in young artists.

Lindsey lives in Vass with her partner, Caleb, and their daughter, Olive, and enjoys painting and caring for her chickens, Wotan, Fricka, Freia, and Erde. Originally from West Michigan, she now delights in sharing her love of music with the North Carolina community.

Janelle Francis is an accomplished piano accompanist with over twenty years of experience. Born and raised in Central Pennsylvania, she started playing piano in the second grade and majored in music in college. She particularly enjoys accompanying choral music and musical theatre.

Since moving to Moore County in 2017, Janelle has become a sought-after accompanist by local churches, schools, and performing arts centers. She has served as the primary choir accompanist for Pinecrest High School since 2018 and Union Pines High School since 2022. Working with these high school students has been incredibly rewarding for Janelle. In November 2023, she had the privilege of accompanying a Pinecrest Graduate, Elijah McCormick (2023 American Idol Contestant) for a concert in Seattle, Washington.

Janelle lives in Carthage with her husband of twenty years and their two teenage children. Board games, puzzles and late-night chats with her kiddos are a few of her favorite things.
